Workshop description: This workshop involves lecture, discussion, and hands-on experimenting with the natural dyes of indigo, creating blues. Students will learn the history and resources for indigo dyes, process of preparation, making three different indigo dye vats, and proper finishing. Students will participate in all aspects of the process, making their own samples using both protein and cellulose materials. Students will be able to over-dye with previous or provided samples, extending the color palette. Some resist materials such as clamps and strings will be available to use in the indigo dye process. The instructor will provide each student with a materials packet for dyeing as well as a booklet of resources, recipes, and natural dye information about indigo.
Materials Fee: $15.00 covers dyes, fibers, instructional book, and miscellaneous supplies.
Student supply list: Student are to bring protective wear; instructor will send details.
Skill level: No experience is needed.
