Seminar description: The history of hemp dates to the Stone Age and was the largest and most important agricultural crop between 1000 BC to 1838 AD. Hemp played a huge part in developing our country. Until the early 1800s hemp was the major fiber used for clothing. What happened to it? The importance of this plant is being recognized again here in the U.S. and all over the world. Joan will talk not only about the history but also the future of this extraordinary plant. A PowerPoint presentation will highlight the lecture. She will give a spinning demonstration using hemp fibers while answering questions from the audience.
This seminar will be recorded on Zoom and available for students to review for 14 days after the festival.
